Date: 9 May, 10 May 2023 | 9am-5.30pm | Classroom Learning
Duration: 2 Days
This course trains participants to understand the user interface/interaction design process, and develop an overview of the topic. It also introduces some of the latest trends and emerging technologies that will shape the future of user interface, interaction development. It also teaches students about the principles and best practices in visual/auditory design and will use hands-on lab sessions to help participants to apply the principles/practices in their daily design works.
This module is part of Professional Certificate in User Interface and Interaction Design.
The course provides the participant with the knowledge and skills to:
- understand the user interface/interaction design process and applying the guiding principles into daily design work
- understand visual design principles and apply them in design practices
- review style guides and make enhancements to ensure that a consistent design language is applied across products
- be aware of the emerging technologies and trends and gain a deeper understanding of how they may shape the future of UI design
Who Should Attend
Required years of experience in UI Design related roles and/or customer/client-facing roles: 1 year. English proficiency: Good. Has a strong interest in improving user interface and interaction for customers.

Assoc Prof Zhao Shengdong
Assoc Prof Zhao Shengdong
Assoc Prof Zhao Shengdong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science of the National University of Singapore where he founded the NUS-HCI research lab in 2009. He earned his Masters and PhD degrees at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Toronto, respectively. Shengdong has a wealth of experience in developing new interface tools and applications. ACM Interaction Magazine mentioned him as one of the most prolific authors in Asia for the ACM SIGCHI conference. Shengdong frequently served on the program committees in top HCI conferences. He was the recipient of the ICACHI Outstanding Young Leaders in HCI award and the NUS Young Investigator Award. More information about Shengdong can be found at http://www.shengdongzhao.com
I am passionate about improving human experience when interacting with computers. I am interested in looking beyond the specificity of individual projects to discover the more fundamental research problems, and then to develop generalizable strategies to solve these problems. Looking beyond, I am interested in developing the next generation of interaction paradigms so that we can leverage the full range of human capabilities. I am also interested in combining HCI with AI to create intelligent user experiences.
Assoc Prof Wadhwa Bimlesh
Assoc Prof Wadhwa Bimlesh
Assoc Prof Wadhwa Bimlesh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Assistant Dean (Student Life) of the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She received her Ph.D. degree (1990) in Computer Science (Software Metrics) from University of Delhi, India. She also holds an M.Tech. (2000) degree in Software Engineering from National University of Singapore, an M.Sc. degree (1985) in Physics from University of Delhi, and a B.Sc. (Honours) degree (1983) in Physics from University of Delhi. Dr Wadhwa’s research and teaching interests include software engineering, interaction design, information visualization and computing education. In her teaching engagements, Assoc Prof Wadhwa has supervised many undergraduate and post-graduate students in the NUS School of Computing. She has developed, coordinated and taught several courses in the areas of software engineering and human computer interaction e.g. object oriented analysis and design, software engineering principles and patterns, software system design, interaction design, and information visualization.
In her recent research work, Assoc Prof Wadhwa has worked on gender issues in human-computer interaction, user modelling and evaluation of health applications and in improving quality of software design models. Her research has been presented in major conferences such as the FSE Foundations of Software Engineering, Workshop at ICSE International Conference on Software Engineering, and CHI Conference on Human Computer Interaction.
Assoc Prof Wadhwa has also contributed book chapters to volumes including Wiley Handbook for Human-Computer Interaction and Springer’s Informatics and Communication Technologies for Societal Development. Assoc Prof Wadhwa is the initiator and leader of the Code for Community programme, an initiative by NUS School of Computing to bring computing education to underserved communities. She has been very active in organising and judging many national and international competitions and hackathons including CodeXtreme, NUS Data Science Challenge, Singapore Science and Engineering Fair(SSEF), and Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Assoc Prof Wadhwa is also an active member of MakerLab at School of Computing, a Faculty representative at Student Chapter of Singapore Computer Society, and advisor to Computing Club, at NUS School of Computing.
