Course Overview
This 3-day data collection and analysis module supports learners to collect user data that can be analysed to derive insights to drive their later idea generation process. This entails a research design/plan component, data collection component and data analysis component. This module works with real data and practical training/coaching from research design to data collection to analysis.
This module is part of Professional Certificate in Trisector Strategy and Innovation for Transformation.

Dr Charles Phua Chao Rong

Dr Charles Phua Chao Rong
Dr Charles Phua Chao Rong is CEO and Strategist-General at Solaris Strategies Singapore where he leads Solaris Consortium of Management Consultancies to provide strategy and cross functional consulting to underserved governments, corporates and nonprofits (trisectors) with emphasis on complex problem solving where the problem may even be ill-defined, involves trisector players, needs an Agile approach towards tight strategy-tech-ops-org dev integration.
A trisector strategist-entrepreneur-innovation specialist with 20 years of contributions in government, corporate and civil society, Charles is pracademic-adjunct faculty in university applied problem solving programs in Singapore (NUS NTU SMU), Civil Service College, and Swiss (St Gallen) covering urban-tech, social-tech, policy, business and trisector themed strategy and innovation. Charles was Fulbright fellow at Brookings Institution and non-resident senior fellow at East-West Institute (New York). He is founding editor for Routledge series on Strategy, Wisdom and Skills.
He has a PhD in Public Policy (pragmatic problem solving in US China Singapore), second DBA in corporate strategy for sustainability (submitted), third EdD in teaching strategy (started), degrees in international relations, education, accounting, and (soon) law and organisational psychology. He is an internationally-awarded Certified Management Consultant (CMC) by the Institute of Management Consultants – Global, and Enterprise Singapore (ESG)-awarded Recognised Management Consultant (RMC) with 18 years of government (up to Ministry division head) and non-profit leadership and entrepreneurial experience including government and non-profit start-ups. He learnt the functional best of strategy-innovation-entrepreneurship-sustainability-marketing from Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, MIT, Babson, Wharton, LBS, INSEAD, Kellogg, Berkeley. Charles is the rare few Scaled Agile Inc Program Consultant (SPC) in Singapore, an international Certified Competent Facilitator, Certified Virtual Facilitator from International Institute for Facilitation), Certified Management Accountant, Project Management Professional, amongst others. He is conferred the national Skillsfuture Fellowship award for lifelong learning by President of the Republic of Singapore in 2021.
Recent Solaris projects include: facilitated People’s Association Resident Committee Neighbourhood Committee (RCNC) 4020 mass focus group discussion facilitation in 16 GRCs culminating to PM’s announcement of the merger of RCNC into the Resident Network; jointly developed the inaugural Spark the Next: Singapore Youth Action Plan/Challenge with MCCY, a nationwide youth outreach, national policy and project incubator; developed master-strategy for National Corporate Doing Good (Company of Good) framework for National Volunteerism and Philanthropy Centre; supported Kazakhstan government in social housing transformation; Singapore’s movie industry market analysis (Shaw Cathay GV v Netflix); Singapore Tourism Board’ market analysis into Cambodia; strategy development for Tencent HQ; strategy advisor to National Youth Achievement Award Council.
