Course Overview

Data security is part of cybersecurity that refers to the process of protecting data from unauthorized access and data corruption throughout its lifecycle. Data Privacy is the branch of information security dealing with the proper handling of data concerning consent, notice, sensitivity, and other concerns. This course examines and discusses these issues and includes practical information on ways to protect information housed in information systems and on mobile devices. 

This course is part of Professional Certificate in Health Information Management.

Course Objectives

This course will enable participants to:

  • Understand the differences between privacy, confidentiality, information privacy, and information security and the relationships among them.
  • Discuss how information system security (or cybersecurity) affects privacy, confidentiality, and security.
  • Recognise potential threats to cybersecurity.
  • Identify several security measures designed to protect information and discuss how they function.
  • Discuss the impact that Internet technology has on the security of health-related information.

Prerequisites

At least a polytechnic diploma.

Participants must fulfill at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment components to be eligible for SSG funding. 

This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP). NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP. NTUC members aged 40 and above can enjoy higher funding support up to $500 per individual each year, capped at 50% of unfunded course fees, for courses attended between 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2025.
