Course Overview

With the advent of digitalization of functions in organizations, increasingly more and more digital data are created and stored. Data is now the oil that drives organizational business intelligence for greater value. It is collected, stored, extracted, analyzed and reported. Traditionally, database systems have been used to store them for the purposes. With the advancement in database technologies, new ways of storing data have been proposed to store and process, particularly, big data. This course teaches the concepts of data, big data, and database systems for managing data as well as big data.

Course Objectives

This course will equip learners with the following competencies:

  • Learn what is data and big data
  • Learn the types of database structure
  • Learn the types of relationships in databases
  • Learn to determine which database is right for an organization
  • Learn what is NoSQL or non-relational database
  • Build a strong foundation in managing data and big data in organisations

Other Information

This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP). NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP. NTUC members aged 40 and above can enjoy higher funding support up to $500 per individual each year, capped at 50% of unfunded course fees, for courses attended between 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2025.
