Course Overview

With more businesses pushing for digital transformation, there is a greater need for stronger Data Protection (DP) capability in businesses. Professionals and executives who are appointed as Data Protection Officers (DPO) need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their functions in order to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Organisations will have to adopt an accountability-based approach to safeguard personal data and use them responsibly. DPOs need to be very familiar with the obligations under the PDPA so that they are able to identify the compliance risks faced by their organisations. Based on the risks identified, the DPO will need to implement the data protection management programme at the organisation level and data protection impact assessment at the project level to ensure compliance and accountability.

Course Objectives

This course will equip the participants with:

  • The knowledge of the Data Protection and Do-Not-Call provisions of the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act and its impact to businesses
  • The understanding that the “Tone at the top” could uplift an organisation from compliance to accountability, and that Data Protection as an organisational culture requires participation by all staffs, and continuous effort over a period of time.
  • The ability to lead or supervise the Data Protection Management Programme (DPMP) implementation as a management champion (DPO), by utilising tools and resources provided by PDPC and IMDA to:
      1. Develop and jumpstart the DPMP
      2. Perform data protection impact assessment (DPIA) and finalising an action plan agreed by stakeholders
      3. Conduct periodical revision for DPMP improvements

Insights from the Facilitator
“As organisations embark on their digital transformation journey, there is an increasing recognition of the immense value associated with the way personal data of customers is being used and managed.
