Course Overview

This course provides an overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (Gen AI), emphasising their use in coding assistance. Generative AI and AI assist in coding by speeding up the process and reducing errors. They suggest code snippets, fix bugs, and write functions based on requirements. AI also helps with documentation, ensuring code is well-explained. This allows programmers to focus on more complex and creative tasks. Participants will learn how to effectively use Gen AI tools for creating unit tests, debugging, and optimising code. The course will also cover automating documentation tasks with these tools. By mastering these skills, participants will be well-prepared to integrate AI into their coding practices.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand the essentials of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI (Gen AI), and their applications in coding assistance.
Apply prompt engineering principles to effectively communicate with readily available Gen AI tools.
Apply readily-available Gen AI tools to execute tasks including creating unit tests, debugging code, and optimizing code.
Demonstrate the use of readily available Gen AI tools to automate documentation tasks.

The minimum entry requirement is a diploma along with basic knowledge in programming.
