Course Overview

This course will introduce one of the backbones of metaverse infrastructure – cloud computing. Cloud computing plays a critical role in filling the need for meeting infrastructure requirements in the metaverse and immersive technology-based applications. Major players such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) offers several solutions to meet the infrastructure needs of metaverse.

This course will begin by introducing cloud computing and its role in immersive technologies. Containers and container orchestration using Kubernetes will be explained and a hands-on introduction to that topic will be provided. The role of containers and Kubernetes in immersive technologies will be introduced. Other key cloud technologies in immersive technologies areas such as computing, storage and serverless computing. will be explained so that participants understand the broad cloud landscape.

The course will also cover case studies, architectures and use cases from key industry leaders such as AWS and GCP on solving different kinds of customer requirements involving immersive technologies. It will help learners to understand the role of cloud computing in the metaverse, the different cloud technologies they need to master for a successful career in this area and its future outlook. Some of the key cloud technologies that will be covered include containers, container orchestration, computing, serverless computing, storage etc. The majority of the large and medium-scale industries depend on cloud computing to meet their infrastructure needs. Several industries such as Singapore Tourism Board, Ford, Amazon and KDDI. are powered by cloud computing to meet various needs enabled by immersive technologies.

This course will help learners understand how cloud technologies help those industries succeed in their metaverse journey.
