Basics of Communications for the Internet of Things

Course Overview

Participants will look at the issues of getting data from IoT devices onto gateways, and from gateways onto cloud servers. Topics covered include designing publish/subscribe architectures using Multiqueue Telemetry Transport (MQTT), designing and building backend web services using RESTful APIs.

This course is part of Professional Certificate in Cloud Technologies for IoT.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to send data from edge devices to gateways, and from gateways to cloud servers and back. Learners will also be proficient in designing publish-subscribe protocols centered around MQTT, and design and build RESTful servers.

Who Should Attend

IoT engineers and computing professionals.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computing, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mathematics, with programming knowledge.
  • Other Bachelor’s Degree holders with programming knowledge may be considered.
  • Learners should have taken the set of three courses for the Professional Certification in Basic Electronics and Microcontroller Programming for the Internet of Things.
