Operating Systems For Cyber Analyst

Date: TBA

Duration: 8 Days

Acquire skills and knowledge to secure Operating Systems – the corner stone of every machine and system in the cyber realm

Course Overview

Advanced attackers are developing zero-day vulnerabilities as well as sophisticated and malicious tools that commercial security products cannot detect. It is impossible to defend and research these threats without a good understanding of operating systems concepts.

This module will introduce the participants to Operating Systems concepts, focusing on Windows systems with references to Linux as well.

Participants will acquire the required background a cybersecurity analyst needs to understand and investigate attacks.

This module is part of Higher Certificate of Cyber Security (Intermediate).

Learning Outcomes

With a good understanding of Operating Systems, cybersecurity analysts will be able to comprehend the functionality of malicious tools (such as loading, malware persistency, hooking), anomalies in the Operating System, and potential weaknesses and exploits.

The course enables learners to:

  • Gain a solid theoretical understanding of Operating Systems concepts
  • Understand how these concepts are implemented in reality

Insight from Instructor

“Operating Systems are the first step to understand malwares, exploits, and attacks. The core cyber defense roles as incident responders, and malware analysts demands understanding of operating systems, as well as the positions with high demanding as reverse engineering, vulnerability research, red team, etc.

Understanding of OS concepts will provide the participants with a necessary background to understand weakness in different Operating Systems, behavior of malwares, and the OS different logs. Therefore, operating systems are mandatory knowledge for any of the challenging roles in the cyber security industry.”
