Course Overview

This module aims to provide a broad introduction to computer networks. It covers the main concepts, the fundamental principles, and the high-level workings of important protocols in each of the Internet protocol layer. Topics include the Web and Web applications, DNS services, reliable protocols, transport and network layer protocols, secure communication, LAN, and data communication.

This course is part of Professional Certificate in Operating System and Networking.

Course Objectives

This course will equip learners with the following skills and knowledge:

  • Introduction to Computer Networking
  • Application Layer: HTTP and DNS
  • Transport Layer: Reliable Protocol Design, TCP, UDP
  • Network Layer: DHCP, IP, ARP, Routing
  • Link Layer: Multiple Access Protocols, Ethernet, Multiplexing, Switching
  • Physical Layer: Signalling, Modulation
