Cybersecurity for Executives

Course Overview
Aims to provide business leaders and non-technical executives with the grounding in cybersecurity to understand further the business risks, team structure, governance models, investment decisions, quantifying outcomes, sourcing strategies and effective communication with the cybersecurity professionals.
This module is part of Professional Certificate in Cybersecurity and Privacy Engineering.
Course Objectives
This course will equip the learner with the following knowledge and skills:
- Understand technology jargons for effective communication
- Understand Cloud, IoT and VPN security
- Learn to focus on top 3 vulnerable risks for any organisation
- Learn to uncover risks and quantify security posture
- Prepare stakeholders practically for incidents and response in regard to communication strategy
- Learn to sustain a talented in-house cybersecurity team
- Introduce outcome-based cybersecurity investment
- Learn to critique a cybersecurity proposal
Who Should Attend
- Business leaders and executives such as Directors, VPs and above
- Technology management roles such as Architect, Director or above
Prerequisites
- 8 years or above managerial or leadership experience in any business domains
- 5 years of technical experience with aspiration to be a technical leader
- Keen to learn and contribute to safeguard the digital assets
- Posses basic computer knowledge and a frequent user of desktop, mobile or Web applications

Mr Tommy Hor

Mr Tommy Hor
Mr Tommy Hor is a seasoned executive with diverse experience in IT. He graduated with a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Hong Kong in 1985. He had served the National University of Singapore community as the Director of IT and Chief IT Officer for 18 years before stepping down in 2020 to pursue his own professional interests. Throughout his career in NUS, Tommy had led the organic growth of IT for teaching & learning, cutting-edge research and university administrations. He had played a vital role in digital transformation and business innovations in supporting the faculty, staff and students. His expertise in enterprise architecture, high-speed networking, virtualization, Cloud computing, cybersecurity, identity management and data analytics have enabled him to be an effective coach for staff development and troubleshooting in mission critical operations.
For the professionals, Tommy sees strong connection between his past work and teaching. He believes that teaching shall go beyond content delivery or learning facts from the textbooks and classes. The learning environment should foster critical thinking and problem-solving skill as an individual or a team that he had experienced in many real-life scenarios. He sees himself and his work in classes equipping the students with the practical skills as the last mile connector or right on the spot to the current IT workforce. At the executive level, classes shall focus on the high-level understanding of technology, its risks, limitations, options available and priorities. The future leaders need to be digitally fluent and be able to critique a digital proposal and make consequential investment decisions. Tommy’s professional interests are IT governance, leadership development, infrastructure, virtualization, cybersecurity and machine learning.

Participants must fulfill at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment components to be eligible for SSG funding.
