Course Overview

Health Informatics is an all-embracing term which encompasses every aspect of Information Science and Information Technology (IT) used in healthcare delivery systems. It is the field concerned with the acquisition, use, and storage of information in healthcare, biomedical research, and public health. It covers the many facets of IT as applied in the healthcare environment. It begins with a definition of the term Health Informatics, discusses the various types of Health Information Systems and covers topics related to the implementation of IT in the healthcare settings including network infrastructures, standards (such as SNOMED, ICD, and LOINC) and interoperability issues, good data integrity and management, and challenges associated with IT implementation in healthcare institutions.

Course Objectives

Upon completing the course, learners are able to:

  • Understand the inter-relation among Computer Science, Information Science and Health Science to support the management and processing of data, information and knowledge in healthcare delivery.
  • Apply Health Informatics to advance healthcare delivery and practice to ultimately improve patient outcomes.
  • Apply relevant standards in health information systems to address systems interoperability issues.
  • Explore as to how infrastructures can play a supportive role in the administration of healthcare services.
  • Learn the various health information systems (e.g., Electronics Medical Records, Computerised Physician Order Entry System, Electronic Health Records, and Health Information System) and technologies deployed in the healthcare ecosystem to support healthcare services.

  3. Participants must fulfill at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment components to be eligible for SSG funding.
  4. Singaporeans and Singapore PRs are eligible for up to 90% SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) funding, subject to SSG funding guidelines.

Other Information

This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP). NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP. NTUC members aged 40 and above can enjoy higher funding support up to $500 per individual each year, capped at 50% of unfunded course fees, for courses attended between 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2025.
