Course Overview

When ITU and 3GPP designed 5G, it was meant to be a disruptive and yet integrative technology. How does this technology and architecture support the innovative services that are meant to run on the next generation mobile network?

This course will focus on consumer and industrial applications of 5G and their monetisation, using the 5G network features as the enabler to achieve these business objectives. We will discuss how certain network and backend system designs will impact business requirements.

We will also look at the pros and cons of alternative network technologies and how 5G can be superior. We will briefly examine the commercial impacts of hot topics such as Open RAN and private 5G networks.

Course Objectives

Meant for technical personnel involved in 5G related developments in their respective industries, this course aims to :

  • Provide an overview of 5G technology with a focus on the network and backend system designs
  • Explore the ways of commercialising 5G technology through discussions on the technical aspects such as network infrastructure and network features

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be design a commercial service using principles from Design Thinking.
